Paul Leblanc hails from Miscout Island in New Brunswick. From an early age, he had an undeniable passion for fishing and hunting. Little he didn't know at the time the extent to which this love of fishing would take on a life of its own.
It was in 1984 that Paul decided, as a founding member of Moucheurs Montréal Métropolitain, to share his knowledge and passion for fly fishing - knowledge he had acquired over the years on the magnificent rivers of Quebec. One thing led to
another, and Paul's desire to share his passion continued unabated with the opening of Salmo Nature, the very first Orvis boutique in Montreal.
He owned the store from 1994 to 2018, turning it into one of the finest fly-fishing boutiques in Canada. That same year, he also became a founding member of the Quebec Atlantic Salmon Federation (Montreal Chapter). A tireless worker, Paul also hosted a series dedicated to fly tying on Réseau des sports (RDS) from 1994 to 2004. This chronicle will influence a whole generation of
fly fishermen.
Recognized for his knowledge and skills as a fly tyer, Paul is the co-author of the book 25 ans de pêche. He also contributed to Jacques Héroux's book, Atlantic salmon fly’s, which lists more than 300 salmon flies. In 1986, Paul was named Fly Tyer of the Year by the Atlantic Salmon Federation (ASF) with one of his creations, a dry fly named after his wife, the Hazel. And what can we
say about the famous John Olin wet fly, created on a beautiful summer's day on the Grande Cascapedia and which on its very first casts gave him a large 25-lb salmon.
Now retired, Paul continues to devote himself to his passion. He continues to catalogue past and present flies, sharing them on his Mouche et Fantaisie group. He continues to tie hundreds of flies for salmon fishing enthusiasts.
Long-time friend of André Paradis, producer of the series King of the river, Paul works closely with him for the section The fly Box that can be found on the Web App roidesrivières-kingoftheriver.com.
