I was born on January 22, 1963 on the edge of the most beautiful salmon river in Europe, Allier.
I started to tie classic salmon flies approximately 30 years ago.
I started with trout flies and as I was born at the edge of large rivers with salmon and
some of my fishing salmon friends required of me their to make some flies. I started
with simple flies in hairs of badger and during of a fly exhibition I discovered a book
representing of traditional past and the present ones. That was for a shock to see
these beautiful flies.
Of course, I immediately tried to reproduce these beauties but work was hard and I
did not have many materials. The catch was when I was engaged in the Ragot
company as to manage the fly fishing department. I discovered in old stock all the
materials which I missed. From this moment it was an obsession and I took as
example the flies of Wayne Luallen or Marvin Nolte. When I am impassioned by
something I do it in excess and as I was at the time single person I did not have any
brake.
My beginnings were not easy and the few people who tied kind these flies was not
talkative and maintained a culture the secrecy. I always at the head have this remark
of a French tier which say to me “one should not anything say and all to keep
secret”. I am asked to him why, it did not know to answer me. It was the same thing
in the research of the feathers, all the sources were to be held secret, nothing to
always say anything to say. I found that so stupid. It held secret its experiment so
much that nobody know it.
