I started tying Atlantic salmon flies before going to Scotland to fish a Hardy beat on the Tay in the late ‘90’s.
I landed my first salmon on a pattern I’d copied from a book of fishing the Tay. When Ray Smith walked into one of my fly shops a year or so later, he returned with materials and showed me how to tie a green Highlander.
My dear friend Chuck Vestal invited me to Cotinga Club meetings in Denver and the rest is history: tying Atlantic salmon flies is part of my pleasantly addictive affliction with fly fishing.
