I tied my first fly on January 24thof 2018, the day after I stopped drinking alcohol. Replacing one addiction for another, I began a daily ritual of tying trout fly patterns for fishing and eventually realistic insect patterns. A few years later I became aware of the world of salmon fly tying and was immediately transfixed, appreciating the knowledge, attention to detail, and creativity that the world of salmon fly tying required.
On January 23rd of 2021, after much research and preparation, I completed my first classic salmon fly: Major Traherne’s Nepenthian. While it was a rough attempt, this first fly salmon fly gave way to a whole new level of addiction for fly tying. I have since found a deep passion for not only tying classic and
creative salmon fly patterns, but also for creating sustainable substitute tying materials and the
art of hook making by hand.
I look forward to continuing to advance my knowledge and skills alongside my fellow tyers and all that have come before us!
