I started tying salmon flies in early 2022. I had been tying mostly trout flies up to that point,
since I started fly fishing in 2012. Back when I was coordinating tyers for our local fly fishing
expo, I remember watching Rocky and Byron work their magic with salmon flies. I thought--
someday I will do that.
Someday finally came, when a conversation with a salmon fly tyer on Instagram torpedoed me
down the rabbit hole- I’ve yet to surface! I have quickly fallen in love with the colors and
textures of the materials we use, and the joy the flies bring to peoples faces when they are
gifted one, and swinging them on my home waters- the Clearwater and Snake River.
Shorty after, I joined the Northwest Atlantic Salmon Fly Guild. This organization is amazing,
both in welcoming new folks in and helping us learn. I am fortunate and extremely proud to be
a member.
I look forward to attending ASFI- meeting so many tyers that have helped me since the
beginning, learning from them, and being able to pass on a bit of knowledge from more of a
“beginners” standpoint, to those attending who are looking to get started.
