Hi, my name is Mike, I'm 41 years old, from Perth, Australia. I've been fly fishing since I was 15, yet surprisingly only started fly tying about 10 years ago since I moved to Canada. In Australia, I spent most of my time fishing saltwater in the Indian Ocean, where there are no Salmon. I mostly tie fishing flies for Steelhead and Pacfic Salmon for my own pleasure and relaxation. A kind of mindfulness. Moving to Canada is what brought me to the Atlantic Salmon fly, catching Steelhead on pacific north west patterns from Roderick Haig-Brown to Syd Glasso and traditional Dee fly patterns from the namesake river in Scotland. I haveprogressively moved towards the Classic Atlantic salmon fly for both its beauty and ability to catch fish. I am lucky to have mentors in fly tying for the plethora of fishing situations I experience. The past two years I have been travelling the world, and am settling back down in Australia. Healthly living is important in my life, I am Paleo, exercise frequently and enjoy cooking, underwater photography, and any fly fishing on the flats, in particular bonefish.
I will be at ASFI 2020 and hope to see you there.
